Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea on 27 October 1914, the son of a senior English master. On leaving school he worked on the South Wales Evening Post before embarking on his literary career in London. Not only a poet, he wrote short stories, film scripts, features and radio plays, the most famous being Under Milk Wood. On 9 November 1953, shortly after his thirty-ninth birthday, he collapsed and died in New York city. He is buried in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, which had become his main home since 1949. In 1982 a memorial stone to commemorate him was unveiled in 'Poet's Corner' in Westminster Abbey.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Unclear. This volume contains nearly two hundred poems by the Welsh poet whose untimely death in 1953 robbed the world of a unique literary talent. It contains all the verse of the Collected Poems 1934-1952, plus over one hundred other poems previously either quite inaccessible or not easily accessible. It is therefore the most representative collection of the poet's work available in one volume. A poet does not live in a vacuum, and the various influences on Thomas's life emerge clearly from the chronological presentation of his work which is a feature of this edition, and reveal something of the relationship between poems written about the same time and the development of the poet's technique and imagery. The 1978 printing of The Poems, which marks the twenty fifth anniversary of Dylan Thomas's death, includes an example of Thomas's 'pub poetry' recently discovered by Wynford Vaughan Thomas, and never before published in any anthology. -------------------------------------------------------------- 291 pages, sellotape marks on inner covers ---------- Orders of $100.00 or more are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
