About the Author:

Fay Fransella is Founder and Director of the Centre forPersonal Construct Psychology, Emeritus Reader in ClinicalPsychology, University of London and Visiting Professor in PersonalConstruct Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. Shehas written eleven books, eight of them specifically relating topersonal construct psychology and published over one hundred andfifty journal papers and chapters.
She trained and worked as an Occupational Therapist for ten yearsbefore taking a degree in psychology and a postgraduate diploma inclinical psychology in 1962. It was during her first job as alecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, London that she wasintroduced to George Kelly’s personal construct psychology.It was a revolutionary alternative to the dominant behaviourism ofthe time. She found the view that we are all free agentsresponsible for what we make of the events which continuallyconfront us particularly liberating. Since that time she hascarried out research, mainly into problems of stuttering andweight, together with teaching and writing within the framework ofKelly’s ideas.
