The quality of undergraduate education in science, technology,engineerig, and mathematics (STEM) fields has been a nationalconcern since the time of Sputnik. In spite of many reports on thestate of STEM undergraduate education and multiple reform efforts,time-worn patterns of instruction persist in many STEM classroomsand laboratories. Robert D. Mathieu is professor and chair of Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also directs the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning.

It is a quick read with an abundance ofinformation, points of view, and examples of how individuals orsmall groups have spearheaded the change in STEM education.

Though this book may be of the most benefit to those in facultyteaching or administrator roles, as a STEM advisor, I gained abetter understanding and a more comprehensive view of current STEMeducation and what collaborative changes must happen in order toimprove teaching and learning in STEM education.
