From the Back Cover:

The inevitability of crises is a harsh reality of the world we livein. But while evidence suggests that crises anddisasters—from earthquakes and infectious disease pandemicsto oil spills and terrorist attacks—are occurring withincreasing and alarming frequency, almost all of them can be moreeffectively managed. Theorizing Crisis Communicationpresents a comprehensive review and critique of a broad range oftheoretical frameworks designed to explain the development, management, and consequences of natural and man-made crises. Weknow how crises such as the Japanese tsunami/Fukushima nuclearaccident, the H1N1 pandemic, Hurricane Katrina, and the ExxonValdez oil spill create widespread economic, political, and socialharm, reduce public trust in institutions, damage the environment, and change basic beliefs, norms, and systems for managing risks. Byincorporating the latest theoretical work from organizationalstudies, sociology, psychology, public relations, and publichealth, the authors reveal how this vast body of research offersimportant insights into the similarities, patterns, andrelationships across different crises. Theorizing CrisisCommunication is an essential tool for a comprehensiveunderstanding of the onset, management, response, resolution, andultimate meaning of these devastating world events.
