From the Back Cover:

A comprehensive guide to understanding the biology and biologicalconditions of the treatment process

Due to the importance of anaerobic digesters in wastewatertreatment processes, a review of the microbiology of the bacteriaand the operational conditions that affect their activity are ofvalue in addressing successful and cost-effective operation.

The Microbiology of Anaerobic Digesters – the thirdbook in the Wastewater Microbiology Series – provides anin-depth review of the bacteria, their activity, and theoperational conditions that affect anaerobic digester performance.Avoiding the technical jargon, chemical equations, and kineticsthat typically accompany such texts, this comprehensive resourcealso discusses troubleshooting and process control measures thatwill allow you to maintain treatment efficiency, prevent systemupsets, and reduce operational costs.

Prepared for an audience of operators and technicians who areresponsible for the daily operation of anaerobic digesters, TheMicrobiology of Anaerobic Digesters covers important issues inthis field, including:

  • Substrates, products, and biogas
  • Operational conditions, including nutrients, temperature, andalkalinity
  • Process controls and troubleshooting
  • Types of digesters

Fixed film anaerobic digesters are becoming more and more commonin the treatment of soluble organic compounds in wastewater. TheMicrobiology of Anaerobic Digesters will introduce readers tothis important topic and provide them with the necessaryinformation for understanding biological conditions of thistreatment process.
