Synopsis
The book begins with the principles and basic processes associated with radioactive decay, production of radioactive materials, and detection and measurement of radiation, and progresses to discussions and illustrations of the applications and problems of radiation measurements in biology and medicine. Hazards associated with the use of radioactive materials are also presented. Topics which are given special emphasis include liquid scintillation counting, autoradiography and radio chromatography, statistical analysis of radioactivity measurements, and radiation safety. Topics covered for the first time in a book of this type include semiconductor radiation detectors solubilizers and decolorizers for liquid scintillation samples, Cerenkov counting techniques, stationary gamma imaging cameras, absorbed fractions and equilibrium dose constants.
