Jenny's spirit, determination, and focus on providing service to her clients enabled her to create a leading weight-control company and help millions of people. Her journey is an American success story."
--Steven N. Blair, President and CEO, The Cooper Institute

"Jenny Craig is a pioneer in delivering nutritious, portion-controlled food, now recognized as one of the most powerful dietary weight-loss tools, in the context of a comprehensive program to change one's lifestyle. The story of her success in building a multinational weight-management program can serve as an inspiration to other women (and men) who have the capacity for the hard work needed to carry their creative ideas to fruition. From the Inside Flap:

From its beginnings over twenty years ago, Jenny Craig, Inc., has grown into one of the most successful names in the weight-management industry, with over 650 centers worldwide. All along, the cofounder of the weight-loss centers that bear her name has sought to inspire others to achieve their weight-loss and lifestyle goals.

Now, Jenny Craig is set to inspire you again in The Jenny Craig Story: How One Woman Changes Millions of Lives.

Overflowing with touchstones about life, career success, and health, this not-to-be-missed book offers a rare portrait of the woman behind the company. Here, the author recounts her childhood in Depression-era New Orleans, and how her father instilled in her the core values of hard work and sacrifice. You’ll also trace Craig’s early career, from the opening of her first gym to the realization of her vision: a weight-management program that introduced nutritional guidance, behavior modification, and foods.

The Jenny Craig Story chronicles how Jenny Craig, Inc., got its start in Australia with nine centers–and how, after Craig’s return to America, the company flourished despite relentless competition. Page after page, the author shares her hard-won wisdom in all areas of her business–from hiring consultants for the weight-loss centers, to succession planning. You’ll also see first-hand how Craig dealt with the numerous obstacles in her path, including lawsuits, stringent FTC guidelines, and her own serious illness.

Throughout the book, Craig offers positive, take-to-heart mandates:

On Aging and Goal-Setting

  • "It’s never too late"–for anything that you want to accomplish

On Finding Balance

  • How to achieve balance in the "wheel" of life

On Setting Priorities

  • If you concentrate on doing the important rather than the immediate, you can accomplish a lot more

On the Key to Weight Loss

  • Maintaining a healthy body and living a balanced lifestyle should not be approached with an "all-or-nothing" attitude

And much more.

Whether or not you have struggled with your weight, The Jenny Craig Story will demonstrate how the right values–and the right attitude–can take your career and personal life in a positive direction.

About the Author:

JENNY CRAIG, founder of the eponymous weight-loss centers, is well known to many people from her appearances in ads for her company. She began working in the weight-management industry when she was trying to lose weight gained during pregnancy. She went on to work as a top executive for a chain of centers that was sold to NutriSystem, then, along with her husband Sid, relaunched Jenny Craig Systems in Australia—bringing it back to the United States in the mid-1980s. Today, Jenny Craig, Inc., is one of the largest weight-management companies in the world.
