This standard book is an exposition of the Cecchetti method of ballet. For decades, Cecchetti (1850-1928) performed and taught in Russia and with Diaghilev's troupe. Elaborating a logical progression of exercises, Cecchetti provided dance with a unity it previously lacked, balancing the adagio and allegro, re-establishing the notion of "legato", strengthening the arabesque, developing the exercise of the plies. In this book, Cyril Beaumont, the most distinguished modern writer on ballet, has codified Cecchetti's program of study starting from the very beginning, assisted in the descriptions by one of Ceccheti's star pupils, Idzikowski. Cecchetti himself approved this statement of the Cecchetti method.
