The text is approachable for intermediate students and expands vocabulary by clearly defining terminology. Some readers may be disappointed to find that the colorful jacket leads to black-and-white illustrations. These illustrations of individual plants and animals have identifying labels and define basic shape and structure. The format is uncluttered with good-sized print.An extensive glossary is available, but there is no pronunciation guide or index. Little indication is given as to which animals exist along a particular coastline.
