About the Author

French painter Claude Monet (1840–1926) was the founder of and leading artist in the Impressionist style. He had dedicated support from collectors throughout his career and influenced a wide range of artists, including Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse. In the second half of the twentieth century, his popularity grew immensely, with his work being featured on commercial items and attracting record-breaking crowds to museum exhibitions.
