Dr. Steven Frierman is an Associate Professor at Hofstra University in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, where he teaches courses in sport and exercise physiology and applied fitness. During his 14 years at Hofstra, Dr. Frierman has developed and/or modified eight different courses in sport and exercise in order to meet the present needs of students. He was the creator of the Sport Psychology section for "American Football Quarterly," which reached over 15,000 sport practitioners per quarter. Dr. Frierman has also written or edited over 20 articles, focusing on performance enhancement strategies and coaching effectiveness. Presently, Dr. Frierman is a section editor for the "Journal of Youth Sports: Youth First" and has his own column entitled "In the Zone." Dr. Frierman has presented at local and national conferences and organizations including NASPSPA, AAHPERD, NYSAAHPERD, NYSSHLAS and NCJW. He was the sport psychologist for one of the New York professional teams and has worked with coaches and athletes of all ages and skill levels on the development and implementation of mental training programs. He has been interviewed by several journalists and TV hosts requesting information in the areas of sport and exercise psychology and he is presently writing a book entitled "Blessing in Disguise: Inspiring Others to Overcome Difficulties in Their Lives." Dr. Frierman's research interests focus on group and team dynamics, psychological momentum, and motivational and adherence strategies in sport, physical activity and exercise. He has adopted a scholarly/applied approach in which research is presented to sport and exercise practitioners in a manner in which they can understand and utilize for their own professional growth and development.
