About the Author

Anthony F. Janson is professor of art history at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. He has held curatorial posts at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. He has authored History of Art since his father's death in 1982. H. W. Janson, professor of fine arts at New York University for 25 years, was a two-time recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and for three years held the position of editor-in-chief at Art Bulletin. During his prolific career, Dr. Janson produced a number of books-of which History of Art is perhaps the most celebrated-that remain classics of art history to this day.
