The Baroque era was characterized by the concentration of power in a sovereign or related figure of authority. Artists and architects had to reflect this new exaltation of power in their work, be it in palaces, private residences, public buildings or churches. Beginning with essays by an international selection of scholars, this volume includes the full catalogue of the accompanying exhibition, with hundreds of illustrations of architectural models, paintings, drawings, prints and medals.
