When nineteen year-old Ailith deCotmer is pressed by her liege lord, Preston Claybourne, the Earl of Radford to become his leman, her parents begin looking for a way to help her escape. Her father, who serves as Preston's astrologer, believes that he can send his daughter forward in time to safety. Unfortunately, his inventions are more comic than functional, and Ailith seems doomed to spend her life as Preston's mistress until she stumbles into a magician's tent and touches a mysterious orb. The orb propels her to modern-day New Orleans and into the tent of ren-fair organizer, Joshua Kenley, a descendant of the earl and his mirror image. Joshua thinks the middle French/English speaking wench in his tent is merely a talented ren-fair participant. He sends her on her way, but she finds her way into his house and hides in his closet. After a few days of hide and seek, Joshua discovers Ailith and assumes she has amnesia. Unfortunately, Joshua's prudish, snooping mother arrives for an extended visit, so keeping Ailith hidden won't be easy. Ailith confides all, and Joshua agrees to help her discover how the orb works so they can travel back in time and rescue her parents, even as they fall hopelessly in love. Despite inconsistencies in dialogue, I really enjoyed this debut novel by this mother/daughter writing team. Ailith was refreshing and the snooping mother, as well as Joshua's annoying fiancée' - who quickly becomes his ex-fiancée', added touches of humor. I think I would have enjoyed this book even more if Joshua's character had shown more growth. I really wanted him to stand up to his mother and set some limits. But all in all this was a lovely first novel and I'm certain time-travel fans will enjoy this adventure.Humorous and romantic, A Time for Us will entertain and delight readers! Christine Holden is a refreshing new voice in the realm of time-travel romance! From Medieval England to Modern day New Orleans, Ailith and Joshua will have readers clamoring for more adventures from the pen of Christine Holden!
