A brief history of the Cheyenne Indians, who call themselves "The People"
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Grade 1-3 An attractively illustrated book, The Cheyenne is a very simplified history in large type. Fradin covers in short chapter segments topics such as the early history of the tribe, their beliefs, social and family life, Indian-white relations, and the Cheyenne today. The volume contains color as well as black-and-white photographs. Curiously, it contains the definitions and pronunciations of words such as chiefs, buffalo, and lances, while the Indian terms Ahktunowihio , Heammawihio , and Tsistsistas have no pronunciation given. This volume will be useful for early primary students wishing a brief, visually appealing study of an individual Indian tribe. Yvonne A. Frey, Peoria Public Library, Ill.
