PreSchool-Grade 2 The Maestros have produced another excellent concept book, this one teaching the months of the year. Simple, flat illustrations in appealing bright colors show Harriet the elephant child in activities to which any child can relate. Events marking each month are those a child would notice and observe. There's a nice continuity provided by Harriet's garden, planted in April and producing tomatoes in August and pumpkins in October. Holidays are not mentioned in the text, but the illustrations hold clues about them. There's much to talk about here. All Year Long (Greenwillow, 1983) by Nancy Tafuri is another good treatment of the subject, aimed at a somewhat younger audience. Lucy Young Clem, Evansville-Vanderburgh County Public Library, Ind.
