From the Atlantic to the Pacific, people are shown greeting the new day. The text soars with the words, "Rise with the bluebird,/Shine like the sun./Now's the time to rise and shine." Fernandes's bright, folk-art paintings offer a bird's-eye view of people (and wildlife) at work and play in a New England fishing village, in a mid-western wheat field, on a mountaintop, and on the frozen Alaskan tundra, finally resting on a Pacific beach.
