Jocasta Innes in her various Paint Magic books presents an outstanding collection of paint finishes, but what do you do next? Ask Wassong, who has designed and here explains--in a manner similar to MAC for Dummies--an absolutely amateur proof collection of decorated objects. There's no guessing, because she tells and shows, with Schwartz's photography, every step in the process. Much of her work involves found objects--a tattered and torn raffia-seated chair, lost-their-gleam vinyl boots, one-too-many salad bowls, even scuffed shoe heels and toes. There's a great deal of candor in her craft; she admits that preparation is dull and boring (albeit necessary); warns that certain of the 28 projects may try a beginner's patience; and tends to overexplain tools, techniques, and procedures. No matter, since this craft is the ultimate form of recycling. Barbara Jacobs
