Synopsis

"In this second edition of Computational Fluid Dynamics, the author presents up-to-date treatments of all computational methods of fluid dynamics, while maintaining the original idea of including all computational fluid dynamics methods. The breadth of information sets this book apart from its competitors and allows the instructor to adopt this book, selecting only those subject areas of his or her interest. The second edition includes a new section on preconditioning for EBE-GMRES and a complete revision of the section on flow field-dependent variation methods, which demonstrates more detailed computational processes and includes additional example problems. Homework examples facilitate students and practitioners intending to develop a large-scale computer code"--

Book Description

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques are used to study and solve complex fluid flow problems. This comprehensive book ranges from elementary concepts to state-of-the-art CFD. It begins with CFD preliminaries, discussing the basic principles of finite difference (FD), finite element (FE), and finite volume (FV) methods, which are illustrated through copious examples. Then FD and FE methods are covered, both historical developments and recent contributions. The next section explains structured and unstructured grids, adaptive methods, computing techniques, and parallel processing. Finally, the author describes practical applications to problems in turbulence, reacting flows and combustion, acoustics, combined mode radiative heat transfer, multiphase flows, electromagnetic fields, and relativistic astrophysical flows.

About the Author

T. J. Chung is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. His research interests include numerical simulation of quantum gravity, plasma dynamics in fusion reactors, hypersonic turbulent flows, computational fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics, numerical modeling of combustion and propulsion, fluid dynamics, and heat and mass transfer. He has also authored seven other books, including General Continuum Mechanics and Applied Continuum Mechanics, both published by Cambridge University Press.
