Although well-known as the founder of the modern social sciences, Max Weber is less frequently recognized for his contributions to political thought. This book is an original interpretation of his thinking. Sung Ho Kim argues that Weber, one of the great political theorists of modern times, was deeply influenced by some of the most critical questions in modern political thought, especially the question of public citizenship in a mass democracy and civil society as its cultivating ground.

Book Description:
This book is a fresh interpretation of one of the greatest political and social thinkers of the modern era--Max Weber. He is well-known as the founding father of the modern social sciences; less frequently recognized is his contribution to the modern political thought. Kim argues that Weber's political thought was deeply informed by some of the most critical questions in modern political thought, especially the question of public citizenship in a mass democracy and civil society as its cultivating ground.
Review:
"Kim's book is an erudite, thoroughly researched, and insightful rereading of Weber. It is also highly relevant to contemporary democratic theory." Perspectives on Political Theory

"Sung Ho Kim has produced an outstanding revision of Max Weber's political thought within the context of Weber's work on the sociology of religion."
Leonard Seabrooke, The Review of Politics
