Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition, 1st Printing. Signed, inscribed and dated on the ffep as follows: "February 14,1977/ To Governor Landon-/"The man who should have been President"/I hope you find this/ instructive about a man who considers himself/ a devoted Republican. Bob Hartley/ a follow Kansan." This was Governor Landon's personal copy, the governor ran unsuccessfully again Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1936 Presidential race. A nice affinity copy. Book has red covers with writing outlined in black on the front cover and on the spine. A couple of small smudges at the bottom of the book is the reason for the condition downgrade. Dust jacket is protected in an archival quality dust jacket. A bit of wear and some chipping at top and bottom of spine on the dust jacket. 255 pages. Through intensive research, personal observation, and interviews with party members-both in Illinois and nationally-fellow congressmen, journalists, Percy's staff and family, and Percy himself, the author has provided a clear perspective of this prominent senator.
