From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-K A mismatched picture book, with eye appeal for preschoolers but concepts and activities more appropriate for older children. In this book, which has one or two illustrations and one sentence per page, Ba Ba Sheep engages in elaborate block building and fantasy, leaves on a bus for school, and studies math at school. He looks of an age appropriate to the activities, but the book will have limited appeal to kids who can tackle math problems and elementary school experiences. The story begins as Ba Ba Sheep stays up all night playing with the toys in his room. Just when he decides to lie down for awhile, his mother comes to get him up for school; exhausted throughout the day, he goes to bed early the next night. Ba Ba and other characters are sheep in people clothing; colors are bright and clear; details are interesting, but not meticulous. Panek's Detective Whoo (Bradbury, 1981; o.p.) has more humor and appeal. An additional purchase for most libraries. Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, Neb.

From Publishers Weekly:

A spare and straightforward text combines with slyly humorous full-color pencil drawings for a wonderfully funny picture book. Ba Ba stays up all night playing in his room. Just as he's about to close his eyes for a brief nap, it's time for school. Ba Ba struggles through the familiar routine of a first grader's day only to collapse after barely touching his dinner. The scenes of Ba Ba dozing in the classroom and lunch room, sleeping on the swings, collapsed in a heap during story time or slumped over his desk at dismissal are all the more hilarious in juxtaposition with the text's deadpan irony. Ages 2-6.
