Grade 3-5 Sikh religious and family customs are described in this visit to nine-year-old Harjeet Singh Lal and his family in London. Color photographs on each page are accompanied by a few introductory sentences in boldface type and a longer explanation following. The format is attractive, and the photos are clear. Unfortunately, the text labels rather than explains Sikh belief and tradition. It's all very interesting and colorful, but it never even asks, let alone answers, "why." However, if nothing else, the book may inspire readers to do more searching. Symme J. Benoff, Free Library of Philadelphia
