Anita Ganeri, Rachel Wright, Richard and Sheila Tames are all experienced children's authors who have written across a wide range of subjects. Rachel Wright and Sheila Tames particularly specialise in developing educational activities. From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-4-Two British imports that provide soundbites of information about their respective countries. Both are heavily illustrated with watercolor drawings and full-color photographs. Italy includes mini-mosaics made from eggshells and plaster of Paris, a recipe for Pizza Margherita, and rules for the game Tombola. France includes a recipe for croque-monsieur (a kind of ham and cheese sandwich) and citron presse (lemonade), and instructions for making jewelry from chamomile flowers and rose petals. Both titles give instructions for making Carnival masks and rules for a picture-pairs game. Vocabulary lists have good word choices but offer no pronunciation guides. The indexes are helpful, given the patchwork nature of the material presented. Appealing classroom supplements.
