ea. vol: rev. ed. 32p. map. glossary. index. (Civilization Library Bks.). Gloucester Pr, dist. by Watts. Sept. 1985. PLB $9.40. Grade 5-7 Cursory overviews of ancient Egypt and imperial Rome are presented in two-page chapters dominated by illustrations. The emphasis in Imperial Rome is politics, while the integral role of religion is the focus of Ancient Egypt. Little attention is given on daily life and customs. The minimal text precludes explanations (such as the role of the Roman Senate) which would add interest and life to these unique civilizations. Ancient Egypt is better, with a more flowing text and more attractive illustrations. Both can be used as supplemental report material. Marguerite F. Raybould, Glendale Public Library, Calif.
