Reviews

Grade 4-6. Important facts about Elizabeth II are presented, from her childhood to her changing role as monarch. The concentration is on the subject's adult life, although the life of the Royal Family during World War II is discussed. Green describes the Queen's marriage to Prince Philip and briefly mentions their children, including the marriage of Charles to Diana and their eventual divorce. Other personal problems facing the queen are briefly covered. The declining popularity of the Royal Family is mentioned often, as are the political and monetary problems that have beset the British Isles over the past few years. The book is illustrated with many photographs of the family, as well as official occasions. The brief list for further reading offers two British publications, three titles for advanced readers, and a video. The book gives useful information for reports but fails to bring Queen Elizabeth to life.?Margaret C. Howell, West Springfield Elementary School, VA
