Synopsis
Presents the basic concepts and procedures of music reading and writing with comprehensive written exercises and an abundance of musical examples that put the various rudiments in a musical context and reinforces drillwork. The authors deal broadly with all musical styles and idioms and assume no prior knowledge of music. ..An Apple II or Macintosh disk, packaged with the text, contains an infinite number of problems for drillwork, self-paced tutorial, or homework assignments (computer exercises are cued throughout the text). The disk functions as a tutor, giving immediate feedback on the accuracy of students' work and making corrections, if necessary. The disk also tracks of the number of problems worked by students and provides a cumulative score to aid instructors in evaluating each student's progress.

About the Author
Robert Nelson teaches music theory and composition at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston. A composer in residence and music director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival for 17 seasons, he has also received numerous commissions for compositions and arrangements for the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
