"... the textbook's strength is its easy readability and its conciseness. It is also very well organized with chapters providing natural breaks. In addition, the textbook provides excellent social and political history topics. Its weaknesses are few."
"I adopted the Spielvogel text precisely because it emphasized those areas of history-social, cultural and gender-which I emphasize in my course."
"I have never had any complaint of level or writing style of Spielvogel. Quite the contrary, that has always been a strength and major reason for selecting it in the past. The narrative flows well. The anecdotal material is pleasing to the students. The backgrounds on individuals are especially attractive and effective."
