Ireland, awash with cash and greed, no longer turns to the church for solace or comfort. But the decapitation of Father Joyce in a Galway confessional horrifies even the most jaded citizen.

Jack Taylor, devastated by the recent trauma of personal loss, has always believed himself to be beyond salvation. But a new job offers a fresh start, and an unexpected partnership provides hope that his one desperate vision--of family--might yet be fulfilled.

An eerie mix of exorcism, a predatory stalker, and unlikely attraction conspires to lure him into a murderous web of dark conspiracies. The specter of a child haunts every waking moment.

Explosive, unsettling, and totally original, Ken Bruen's writing captures the brooding landscape of Irish society at a time of social and economic upheaval. Priest is evidence of an unmistakable literary talent.

About the Author:
Ken Bruen has been a finalist for the Edgar and Anthony Awards, and has won a Macavity Award, a Barry Award, and two Shamus Awards for the Jack Taylor series. He is also the author of the Inspector Brant series. Several of Bruen's novels have been adapted for the screen: The first six Jack Taylor novels were adapted into a television series starring Iain Glen; Blitz was adapted into a movie starring Jason Statham; and London Boulevard was adapted into a film starring Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley. Bruen lives in Galway, Ireland.
From AudioFile:
Gerry O'Brien lends a wonderful Irish lilt to the characters in this novel, which uses unfamiliar words like "hurley" (which I had to Google). The writing and the performing, as well as the Galway locations, will make you feel like you're slipping into a foreign culture. O'Brien performs with such tension that he makes the book feel personal. The subject matter is sensitive: A pedophile priest is murdered, and a tortured ex-cop named Jack Taylor is asked to find the killer. Even though Taylor can't forgive the priest and others for their sins, he's driven to solve the crime, no matter whom it hurts. There are no easy answers in this one, but what a ride.
