Synopsis

Could the woman whose voice had been his lifeline find sanctuary in his arms?

Lincoln McAllister rarely left his secret mountain compound, Shangri-la, until twin temptations finally did the trick: a friend's wedding and a chance to meet Sterling Lindsey at last! But answering her desperate call for help sent them both into hiding--and forced them to confront emotions they'd never before dared to confess.  Could a spirited survivor and a man who'd played angel for everyone else but himself seize their own bit of heaven?

In a story of risk and romance as suspenseful as it is sensual, Sandra Chastain sends a lonely hero on the greatest mission of his life: to save the woman who'd kept his hope alive.  He'd persuaded her to leave the refuge where she'd held terror at bay, but would he be able to keep her safe from shadows without also making her his?

About the Author

As a child I made up fantasy lives for my paper dolls, never knowing that I would use these same creative skills later as a writer. I only knew that I became those dolls and lived their lives. Later came amateur stage shows for the neighborhood children to perform, my first Nancy Drew mystery, a one-act play, and finally a musical performed by high school students on an auditorium stage. From the Indian tepee that Santa brought when I was a ten-year-old, to the living room I've recently converted into my office, I'm still stretching the boundaries of my imagination.

After twenty years of working together, my husband and I sold our small-animal veterinary practice. Now he consults and practices part-time while I write full-time. Our three daughters are married, and we have grandchildren who always want Gran to tell them a story. And Gran always complies.

I wouldn't change a thing about my life, for my family is a living expression of the love I write about. When I create a romance for you, I'm telling stories of love and commitment, and I can't tell you how much pleasure I get from writing about happily ever after.

"Shall I remove your stockings?" Mac asked.

"No! No, I'll . . . I'll do it," Sterling insisted. But when she leaned forward, her spine creaked a protest louder than her own choked-back moan.

"What you'll do, Sterling, is lie down. Now, please." He removed her shoes and lifted her onto the bed, placing her head gently on the pillow. Then he sat down beside her and reached for the hem of her gown.

"Please, Mac. Don't."

"Just this once, let someone help you. That's what angels do. Will you let me?"

She closed her eyes, trying desperately to breathe evenly, so Mac wouldn't sense the wild fear his touch elicited. But as his fingertips moved up her legs to her hips, where he slowly peeled down her dark, filmy hose, she couldn't keep from trembling. It wasn't fear that was making her shiver, but desire.

"Mac?" Her voice sounded shaky, unfamiliar. "Mac, thank you. But I think it's time for you to go."

He picked up her feet and completed his task of removing the hose. He thoughtfully rubbed the delicate fabric between his fingers. "So sheer," he murmured. "It must be like wearing moonlight."

"Moonlight?"

He laughed. "I know, I'm hopelessly romantic about some things. Just don't listen to me. I get punchy when I've overdosed on the company of a beautiful woman. Good night, Sterling." He leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead. "Sweet dreams."

Long after he'd left she felt the heated circle his kiss had left, and the echo of his words. Moonlight . . .
