Compass Therapy not only bridges the gap between psychology and Christianity, but makes sense of personality disorders as never before, delivering the Human Nature Compass and the Self Compass growth tools for immediate application by therapists, pastoral counselors, and clinical chaplains. Dr. Ray Anderson, Fuller Seminary's Senior Professor of Theology and Ministry, writes: "I am not aware of any other book that succeeds as well as this one in providing both professional therapists as well as Christian counselors with a theoretical and practical model that combines psychology and theology in an integrated way. It has a profound simplicity that covers a wide range of personality disorders. Readers will say, 'Now I see why typical patterns of dysfunctional and disruptive behavior have a common root but also a specific cause.' Put it on top of your reading list!"

About the Author:

Dan Montgomery, Ph.D., has amassed thirty thousand hours of counseling over 30 years of experience as both a licensed Psychologist and Marriage & Family Therapist. Dan has taught counseling and therapy at Pepperdine Graduate School of Psychology and the University of New Mexico, in conjunction with supervising clinical or pastoral counseling interns in private practice, psychiatric hospitals, counseling centers, and churches. Though he grounds Compass therapy in a Judeo-Christian worldview, his many concepts and techniques crossover easily into psychoanalytic, Jungian, Gestalt, humanistic-existential, and cognitive-behavorial contexts.

Review:

"Compass Therapy is easy to learn and apply. Examples of how to use compass theory abound. All therapists, pastors, and chaplains who want to deepen their counseling skills will find it valuable." --Kenneth Swetland, D.Min., Campus Chaplain and Professor of Ministry, GORDON-CONWELL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

"Compass Therapy is insightful and practical, providing valuable tools for assessing strengths and weaknesses within an individual's personality. The Self Compass and Human Nature Compass provide balance and wholeness in the therapeutic journey. I recommend this book for experienced psychotherapists and counselors, as well as students and interns." --Carol D. Lee, MFCC, LICENSED MARRIAGE, FAMILY, & CHILD COUNSELOR

"Compass Therapy makes a very important contribution to counseling and how the Christian faith and psychology can work together to bring healing into person's lives. The case studies are excellent. Dan Montgomery uses a wide range of technique including role-playing and imaging, which are helpful and empowering to the client." --Abigail Rian Evans, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Practical Theology Emerita, PRINCETON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

"Compass Therapy offers both clinical and pastoral counselors a map, guide, and center for helping clients sort out life and choose direction. Dan Montgomery has pulled together many years of study, writing, and practice with an established model for personality and interpersonal behavior. He provides a workable set of tools for the care-giving process. I am glad for the wide influence of the Compass approach to counseling." --David Augsburger, Ph.D., Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseing, FULLER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

"In my forty-five years of work as a psychologist, I rate Dr. Dan Montgomery in the top 1% of the professionals I have known in the mental health field. He is a brilliant theorist in the field of counseling and psychotherapy." --Everett L. Shostrom, Ph.D., LICENSED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
