Synopsis

"This scholarly commentary on the book of Deuteronomy provides an original English translation, insightful grammatical notes on the features of the Hebrew text, and theological exposition of each passage within its larger context in the book and in the Old and New Testaments that comprise Holy Scripture. The author, a professor at a Lutheran seminary, spent decades of research, study, and travel in the Middle East in order to write this volume. He covers the history, archaeology, geography, and cultural background of ancient Israel. The theological exposition focuses on the creation of Israel through the exodus redemption from Egypt, the role of the Law of Moses for the nation, and its fulfillment in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. The author compares the covenant of Moses to the Abrahamic covenant and the new covenant in Jesus Christ. He highlights justification by grace alone according to the Gospel, the functions of the Law, and good works as the fruit of faith. The author explains how the Christian church is to interpret and apply this portion of Scripture to the lives of Christians today"--
