From Silicone To The Silver Screen is a collection of memoirs from both the cast and crew who were involved in creating the science fiction cult classic The Blob (1958).
The author of From Silicone To The Silver Screen, Wes Shank, is referred to as "the caretaker of the blob silicone". Beginning in 1960, Shank collected movie posters and publicity photos. The blob silicone was the first prop in his collection which was purchased from the director, Shorty Yeaworth, in 1965. Since acquiring the silicone he has shared with the public his love of The Blob (1958) through lectures and exhibitions. Over the years Shank has lectured and exhibited the blob silicone throughout the Philadelphia area at venues including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Villanova University cultural film series, the Moore College of Art, and the Franklin Institute. In addition, he has also exhibited the blob silicone at various sci-fi conventions, including Fanex, Chiller, and Monster Bash. Yearly the blob silicone is also the center of attention at Blobfest in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
