Synopsis

He Called Me Tin is a story of triumph and perseverance. From childhood distress to an attempt at suicide to being scarred by religion to receiving a medical diagnosis to PTSD after working with burned patients to riding a horse up an active volcano as it slipped on lava to the strife of discrimination as a government employee to a car hijacking abroad, she has overcome in peace…Dr. Adrienne is an award-winning millennial, one of the world’s leading health informaticists, and a courageous global citizen. However, beneath her serene and bold persona lives a remarkable journey of steadfastness once coated with ambiguity. She shares vulnerable accounts of how one nickname shaped her experiences in 12+ selected countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. She hopes to influence women of color, working professionals, (dis)abled warriors, veterans, spiritual journey seekers, global travelers, and anyone who wishes to embrace the best in all obstacles…welcome to a tenacious quest.

ABOUT THE COVER PHOTO
On April 26, 2019, on KG 426 Street in Kigali, Rwanda (East Africa), I abruptly asked my husband to stop the car while driving. I glared to my right and immediately became fascinated with a rusted tin fence. Odd. And exotic. The color reminded me of being a proud, boastful, humble woman of color. The color also reminded me of the different phases of change that had recently occurred on my life's journey. But more specifically, it represented the elements of my being that made me nourish the natural beauty of the Motherland. As the car came to a halt, I snapped a picture of what was likely a no trespassing zone. However, the barricade exhibited something even more personal. It represented me, consistently evolving and elevating with time.
