From Publishers Weekly:
From the small town of Deepwell in the kingdom of Myrcia, hardworking Luken Barra lights out to seek his fortune in the city of Castlecliff. His failure there is in contrast to his criminal brother Vearus, who rises from a prison term to become the powerful Healer to the ruling Sanctor. Things change, however, during a dire siege of the city that spurs Luken to go on a quest to the immortal draconian god, the Erseiyr Rizzix, whose intervention is the only hope of survival. Luken makes a bargain with Rizzix, but keeping it is made difficult by human treachery. Although much of this is familiar in outline, from the medieval fantasy world to the mud-and-blood realism to the monster's loneliness amid his hoard of gold, first novelist Fergusson has imagination and style to spare. This satisfying story keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. Reprint rights to Avon.

Cover Art: Peter Goodfellow (illustrator). 1988 Edition. © 1987: 1st in the 'Six Kingdoms' series of books. 1st printing of 1988 edition. Previous owners printed sticker to title page:- Synopsis: Quest for the Erseiyr. Sanctor Grouin was the despotic ruler of Myrcia, a kingdom under attack by the savage armies of the Skarrian leader, Gortahook. Lukan Barra, fallen from his apprenticeship, was pressed into service as sword-fodder against the Skarrians. Then Grouin declared the throne open to anyone who could secure the intervention of the fabled Erseiyr, the immortal winged creature worshipped and feared by the Myrcians for centuries. Setting out for the mountain-top lair of the Erseiyr with the beautiful Rui Ravenstone, Lukan was about to forge a surprising new alliance:- Review(s): "'The Shadow Of His Wings' is a stunning new fantasy sage that has placed Bruce Fergusson amongst the top writers of contemporary fantasy. A master with the tools of Romance: love and loathing, betrayal and trust, glory and jealousy and spectacle. But that's all hidden. You'll be too busy feeling grime on your face, grit between your fingers, aching muscles and stinging blisters, and that sick feeling deep in your gut that comes from knowing that unless you can do five impossible things in the next five minutes, you're going to die" - Orson Scott Card, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author:- (original cost £3.50).
