Grade 3-5 An uninspired effort. The newsprint pages seem appropriate for the careless and unimaginative content. While each of the 50 chapters offers a (very) abbreviated history of a state and lists some standard facts (population, state capital, etc.), encyclopedias and textbooks offer at least as much. Lists of major products and ``things to see'' complete each brief chapter, but, once more, fail to present anything new. Emphasis within this last area also seems quite arbitrary: for example, one of the nine selected ``things to see'' in Pennsylvania is the home of James Buchanan. While the black-and-white maps broadly suggest the topographical character of each state, they are only minimally informative. Fabulous Facts. . . includes a table of contents, but lacks an index. Considering both flat content and flimsy construction, Fabulous Facts. . . is best forgotten. William G. Piekarski, Worcester State College, Mass.
