From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6 --The fourth of the "Murphy" books has protagonist Collette at summer camp dealing with the rivalries and friendships associated with a first experience away from home. The story takes place in a virtually unsupervised, adultless society in which children are left to their own devices and are not accountable to anyone (a fine 10-year-old's fantasy, but it subverts the intended realism of the story), and the primary interest of these preteens is who gets the cute boy. The entire camp experience is taken up by prepubescent mating rituals and their attendent embarrassments and misunderstandings. This book may appeal to undemanding readers, but there is much better fiction available for this age group. --Trish Ebbatson, Delaware County District Library, OH
