Grade 4-6-- Even readers who are not enticed by the subject of mummies and Egyptian tombs will be mesmerized by this riveting account. Reeves frames his story by describing his own rediscovery of some of the Tut artifacts, which had been hidden away in secret cabinets in the mansion of their discoverer, Lord Carnarvon, almost 70 years earlier. He then backtracks, to recount the tale of Carnarvon and Howard Carter's frustrating searches for King Tut's tomb in the 1920s. The book reads like a true-to-life version of Indiana Jones. Exquisite full-color photos and informative diagrams accompany original black-and-white photos taken by the explorers. Both transport readers back in time so effectively that they'll almost smell the dry dustiness of treasures entombed for thousands of years. Reeves also includes much information about life in ancient Egypt. This is a thoroughly thrilling book, and a not-to-be-missed adventure. --Cathryn A. Camper, Minneapolis Public Library
