Homicide detective Terrell Newman is drawn back to the family of the lawyer whose death he investigated in The House of Correction when surviving members of his family and the family lawyer are murdered one by one. Suspicion falls on the daughter, the Goddess of Darkness, a highly intelligent but emotionally infantile young woman who has recruited a number of slaves she commands through visual internet links. This suspicion is strengthened by the disappearance of the daughters former lover, a songwriter/singer named Alex Jago, who had abandoned her a few years earlier when he tired of her demands that he treat her like a goddess. Newman becomes convinced that she is using slaves recruited over the internet to carry out the killings for her. But proving it is no easy matter.
