9780595358991: Necessary Evil

There comes a time for most individuals when we weigh our assets and concerns, and decide where to focus our future efforts. Billy Hawkins, however, has two assets that many would consider liabilities--a degree of moral flexibility and a borderline psychotic drive to protect the vulnerable. As he enters college, Billy finds himself enraged by the increasing reports of sexual abuse by Catholic Priests. He finds most disturbing the Priests' betrayal of children and adolescents in their charge.

After making a radical change of academic pursuits in graduate school, Billy strikes an alliance with the director of a Catholic seminary in southern California. Monsignor Montalvo has been running his own crusade to encourage the Church to mend its ways, but with little success. The pace of Necessary Evil accelerates as the activities of Billy and Montalvo combine to provide an unmistakable message to the Church regarding its sanctioned abuse of the young.

From the Author:

I have always taken my writing inspirations from significant current events. Events that have resulted in published works are the Catholic priest sex abuse scandal and the precipitous end to the U.S./USSR Cold War. My current work suggests a human response to the Western World's failure to properly address the aids crisis in Africa.

In a previous existence I was involved in the U.S. technical sector, supporting government programs relating to space projects and national security.

About the Author:

Aaron Baker Cole has spent much of his professional life in the technical sector, supporting private and government programs relating to space research and national security. He lives and writes in southern California.

Book Description iUniverse, United States, 2005. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Billy Hawkins learns at a young age that his complement of human attributes is incomplete. After consciously making the decision to eliminate the man who has been physically abusing his mother, Billy finds within himself the degree of moral flexibility needed to successfully carry out the execution. During his second year at Rice University, Billy finds a second application for his unique traits. When Billy witnesses his childhood sweetheart and soul mate being attacked by a campus rapist, he unflinchingly applies deadly force to the assailant-feeling no remorse. Billy then decides to alter his education plans to facilitate a demonstration for the Catholic Church concerning its misguided defense of priests guilty of child sex abuse. Although his main goal is to convince the church hierarchy to revise its methods of selecting priest candidates, Billy presents an object lesson by assassinating priests who are known child predators sheltered by the church bureaucracy. After a substantial hit of ten American priests on a sex tour in Mexico, a joint FBI-police task force is formed to put an end to Billy s crusade. The skills and dedication of a crusty Seattle police sergeant and a young female FBI agent combine in an effort to trap the unknown slayer of priests in what they hope to be a final episode.
