From the Author:

In academia, a psychology professor is expected to make scholarly contributions to the field of psychology. For years, I have enjoyed doing just that. I love to write. I love it so much that I published my first text before I completed my doctoral dissertation. However, it has always saddened me to see how friends and loved ones become disappointed when they cannot read my professional writings. This is not in any way due to a lack of intellect on their part. Rather, the nature of scholarly works is such that they are created for other professionals and are full of sophisticated, scientific terminology. This book represents an attempt to write something that the common person can read and understand. Thus, the pages that follow are not filled with citations, research methods, or theoretical concepts. I did not want to burden the reader with the hallmarks of academic writing. In choosing my topic, I decided I wanted to write about something that could help others. In other words, at the risk of being ridiculed for having created a work of pop psychology, I wanted to write something that could empower others. Thus, I asked myself, "What is the most common difficulty I have noticed among friends, loved ones, students, and clients?" The answer came to me quickly. I noticed that I have met quite a number of people who select bad partners and often stay in dysfunctional relationships with the wrong person. This is how this book came to be. "The Loser Magnet Handbook" is (obviously) whimsical and stands outside my program of academic research, but I hope to have created a quality work of practical value nonetheless.
