The musical life of Warne Marsh, perhaps the most improviser of the history of music in the west. It is his life as he might have told it. His song is set to words. Some comments about this book by musicians, music lovers and writers:"The most literate book about jazz-or any music-that I have read. A compelling read-as soon as I reached the last page I had to start all over again."-Kerr Ferguson (UK)"A wonderful study of a musician and a human being. It deserves to be published."-Jim Heymann (USA)"Just magic. Fabulous. And it would make a wonderful film."-Ike Isaacs, jazz guitarist and teacher (Australia)"It was just like listening to Warne's music, written the way he played. Reading it made me feel like playing and playing. Thank you so much."-Susan Chen, pianist (USA)"I started reading the book all over again and read it in one sitting, stopping only for a bite for lunch. It is an impressive book, stylish, mellifluous, deep and full of the feel of Warne's life the feel and structure and flow of a piece of music."-Enver Carim, writer (UK)" the novel, is as demanding, intriguing, artistic and powerful as the best of Warne Marsh's oeuvre. This is literature of a higher order, and it swings."-Prof. Kevin Monahan, Hokuriku University (Japan)" a fascinating and thoughtfully detailed insight into the life of this highly respected player. Essential reading for anyone interested in discovering the inner motivation of a jazz musician."-Mike Nelson, Head of Jazz Department, Australian National University

Book Description iUniverse, United States, 2008. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Out of Nowhere by Marcus Cornelius: Readers Comments The book is one of the very best music books I ve ever read . an outstanding piece of jazz literature. Congratulations! Roland Baggenaes, Denmark (June 2002) It has the serenity of complex and perfect harmony. Philippe Paschel, France (December 2003) Just finished reading this fascinating, compelling, and, at times, deeply moving work by Marcus M. Cornelius. It s not quite like any other jazz book I ve ever read, and I mean that in a wholly positive way. I never lost the illusion that this is actually Warne Marsh speaking, telling his life s story from beyond, and entirely in his own voice. From the recounting of his ancestry, to the detached ambivalence of his childhood, to the various reasons why he did or did not do certain things in his life (personal and career-related), the author really seems to have captured the voice of his subject. it s a damn good book. J. Sngry, Organissimo Jazz Forum (March 2003) I couldn t recommend it more highly! I found it to be supremely insightful and informative. The author manages to put his feet in Warne s shoes and tell us what he was seeing in the world around him as he grew up and played music. It is brilliant. K.C. Marsh, USA (May 2002) The book has been a miracle for me. It is always near me. Thank you. Geraldyne Marsh, USA (May 2002) Just a moment ago I finished reading your wonderful book. Very often during the reading I felt as if I was sitting back in the Village Vanguard, sometimes hearing Warne s surprising solos. The book should be read by anyone with a true interest in this music.a marvellous work. Alwyn Lewis, Australia (May 2002). Seller Inventory # AAV9780595510900
