PreSchool-Grade 2-- An easy reader about individuality. Jenny Hen's first three little chicks hatch right on time. The fourth is slow to hatch, and so slow to learn his lessons that the other animals on the farm suggest that Jenny Hen call this one "Slow Chick." She resists, and rightly so, for when the littlest chick is faced with a real danger, he shows that he has learned his lessons very well. Hoban's softly colored animals give the perfect touch to this well-written, very easy-to-read story that will amuse beginning readers. Another winner in the growing list of collaborations from this team. --Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, Iowa
