Sylvia Funston, former editor-in-chief of OWL and Chickadee Magazines, is a multi-award-winning science author and editor. In 1994, she and co-author Jay Ingram won the prestigious Science in Society Award for A Kid's Guide to the Brain. She is also the author of the popular Strange Science series. Sylvia's work has been honored with several Parents' Choice and EDPRESS awards of excellence.
Grade 4-6-- First published in Canada, this book presents new information to U. S . audiences. Funston queried hundreds of children to determine what questions they wanted answered. But the questions, and their answers, here, have an added twist. This team of paleontologists, called the Dinosaur Project, works on digs in the Alberta Badlands. They also worked with Chinese scientists digging up bones in the Gobi Desert, and have been digging up dinosaurs in the Arctic. It's a refreshing change to see a picture of worldwide expeditions, rather than focusing on findings in the United States. The information has been livened up with quizzes and a conglomeration of full-color photos, drawings, and paintings. A glossary of Latin and Greek words will help readers untangle the meaning of dinosaur names. Overall, this is a good title for browsing and brushing up on dinotrivia.
