Katherine Paterson is one of the world's most renowned children's book authors. Ms. Paterson has received the National Book Award twice and has won the Newbery Medal for both
Bridge to Terabithia and
Jacob Have I Loved. She is also the author of two other I Can Read Books featuring
Marvin, The Smallest Cow in the World and
Marvin's Best Christmas Present Ever. Ms. Paterson lives in Barre, Vermont.
Marvin's a new first-grader who is having difficulty learning to read. Christina Moore reads slowly, plodding along almost painfully. It's not surprising that this does nothing to engage children in the story. There are cute sound effects of kids' voices and sprightly music. Marvin's teacher and father do teach him how to read, and he gains self-confidence by the end of the story. A.G.H. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
