This book is written to help guys that are a bit uncomfortable with the whole new dad thing get some helpful ideas about how to make the experience more rewarding for them. It is written simply, (for a guy's short, fact oriented left brain attention span), in guy talk (most guys won't have the desire to read large volumes on the subject of parenting written largely from a women's perspective), and netted out (so as not to interfere with ESPN, Caddy Shack, golf, fishing, hunting, or any other activity that the new father will want to try to keep doing when the new baby arrives).

Being a new father, I came to the conclusion that there weren't a lot of books written by men for men that were going to become fathers for the first time. The few that I found were written by physicians, and had a kind of clinical feel, not something that I felt guys would read. So where would we go? Our fathers didn’t give us instruction on what to expect, what to do, and I know most guys think that dealing with baby things were for the women. But this is the new millennium, and parenting is a shared responsibility, in my humble opinion.

Therefore, the intent of this book is to help guys that are a bit uncomfortable with the whole new dad thing get some helpful ideas about how to make the whole experience more rewarding for them. It is written simply, (for a guys short, fact oriented left brain attention span), in guy talk (most guys won't have the desire to read large volumes on the subject of parenting written from a largely women's perspective), and netted out (so as not to interfere with ESPN, Caddy Shack, golf, fishing, hunting, or any other activity that the new father will want to try to keep doing when the new baby arrives).

Lisa and I have met a lot of divorced people that have small children. I think a lot of times the friction centers on the parents not really understanding the huge responsibility you assume once you become a parent. Perhaps this book will help prospective parents, especially fathers understand their role and responsibilities as a new parent.

My hope is that this book will find it’s way into the hands of new fathers around the world and better prepare them for fatherhood. I hope to help them be participating fathers rather than bystanders, maybe prevent a few broken marriages, and help contribute to family environments where our children can grow up in homes with two parents versus one. This will hopefully improve their chances in life, and improve society in general for generations to come. Pretty global, eh? But my real motivation is to have this book be successful enough to get me on "Oprah" as the featured book in her book club. Heck, maybe a few moms might even like it for themselves or their girlfriends (more customers, I like it!).
