Roswell, Enos and Preston Hotchkiss-Pioneers. Leaving their home in McKean County, PA, the three Hotchkiss brothers began their journey west in the 1850's. They were early settlers in Dixon County, Nebraska Territory, Union and Clay Counties, Dakota Territory, and were early pioneers on the Eastern and Western Slopes of Colorado. They mined, ranched, built saw/grist mills, roads and helped establish towns, counties and schools. They represented the industry, vision and grit of most of the pioneers who made the trek westward into undeveloped territories. With the Hotchkiss brothers were their wives and children, who experenced the same hardships and adventures: Roswell's gentle wife, Jane; Hannah, a young girl when she started west from Pennsylvania with her husband, Enos; Enos' second wife, widow Elizabeth McIntyre Cowen; and Preston's wife, the indomitable Sally Ann. The book contains maps, timelines, historic newspaper items, letters, diaries, memoirs, book excerps, census records, family stories and photos.
