Although there are few survivors now, the Normandy Invasion nearly 70 years ago continues to touch the lives of those veterans, their families and friends, who participated in the massive assault on Fortress Europe during World War Two. A military history buff, the author was honored to have participated as lead architect in the design and construction of a permanent memorial to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied Forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944. While the book touches on the invasion, its primary focus is on the evolution of concept, the building process, and the finished work completed in Bedford, VA in 2001. Then President George W. Bush was on hand for the formal dedication. This full-color book combines narrative and images, including architect's drawings, models and mockups, to describe the 10 year process from beginning to end. The completed memorial is the only one on American soil devoted soley to commemorating this momentous event.
