In 1965 the Town of Chelmsford, Massachusetts commissioned a follow-up to previous town histories published in 1820 and 1917. Eleanor Parkhurst was selected to write that update, but in 1975 the work stopped two chapters short of completion. In 2008 the hand-typed manuscripts were rediscovered in a Historical Commission file cabinet and work began to complete the book. With the knowledge of what had taken place in town during the 40 odd years since the original text had been written, an Epilogue chapter was added to tie up loose ends and bring the reader up to year 2011. The History of Chelmsford 1910-1970 chronicles the mis-steps, struggles and advancements of a rural Massachusetts town as its population exploded and the transition to a desirable suburban community was completed.
