The book tells the story of Michigan's Father Edwin Frederick, an ordinary man who fostered a volunteer spirit. "Fr. Fred" was assigned to a chaplaincy position at a psychiatric institution at the age of thirty-four until the age of sixty-five, when he was transferred to a parish.
According to the Catholic Weekly (September 19, 2011 issue:) "The original run was 2,000 hardcover books, which are selling at $29.95, and 100 limited-edition leather-bound versions signed by him and Fr. Edwin Thome (Fr. Frederick's successor at the foundation and the author of the book's foreword) for $100 each 'for those who want a collector's item.'
